The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has identified six of its members who died in a road crash on the Kaduna-Abuja Road on Sunday.

The doctors were on their way to Sokoto for the annual conference of the NMA. Also killed in the crash was the driver of their vehicle.
In a statement today following the National Officers’ Committee (NOC) meeting in Sokoto, the association identified the deceased as:
• Dr. Alex Akinyele – Secretary NMA Ekiti, Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Ido Ekiti;
• Dr. Tunde Aladesanmi – General Surgeon, FTH, Ido Ekiti
• Dr. O.J. Taiwo – Anatomic Pathologist, EkitiState University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti;
• Dr. Ogunseye J.B – National Association of General and Government Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) National Secretary, Hospital Management Board (HMB), Ekiti;
• Dr. Olajide O – Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), EKSUTH President;
• Dr. Atolani Adeniyi – Secretary NAGGMDP, Ekiti State; and
• Mr. Ajibola – NMA Ekiti Driver.

• Dr. Atolani Adeniyi – Secretary NAGGMDP, Ekiti State; and
• Mr. Ajibola – NMA Ekiti Driver.
The statement also noted that other delegates who survived the accident are in stable condition and are receiving medical attention under the auspices of the Chairman of the Kaduna State NMA and his team.
“The bereaved families have been contacted and arrangements are in motion to convey the bodies back to Ekiti State,” the NMA said, adding that the NOC has sent its representatives to Kaduna for an on-the-spot assessment, and to complement the efforts of the Kaduna team.
The association directed that while the conference continues, all doctors are to observe one week of mourning, commencing tomorrow and ending on Tuesday, May 3.
“Every doctor should put a black band on the left arm of their white overalls,” it stated.
The association further said that it is in contact with the families of the deceased and that burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
